This privacy policy explains what information we collect when you visit dogshortlist.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep it short and in plain language on purpose.

Who We Are

The Dog Shortlist publishes researched buying guides. The controller responsible for the data processing described in this policy is the site operator; the operator’s legal name, address and registration details are listed on our contact page, where you can also reach us at any time.

What We Collect

We do not offer accounts, and you never need to hand over personal details to read our guides. The data we work with is limited to:

• Usage data. If analytics is enabled on this site, we measure page views, approximate region, device type and how visitors move through our guides. We use this to improve our content.
• Advertising click identifiers. We advertise our guides on platforms such as Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising. When you arrive through one of those ads, the link contains a random click code (such as a gclid or msclkid). We store that code in your browser and use it to measure which ads lead to purchases, so we can stop showing ads that do not help anyone.
• Email correspondence. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to share. We use it only to reply.

We do not build personal profiles and we do not sell personal information. Where EU law applies to us as the operator, we process this data on the basis of our legitimate interest in measuring and improving our content and advertising; where consent is legally required, we ask for it first.

Cookies and Local Storage

We use a small amount of first-party storage in your browser:

• Attribution storage that holds the advertising click code described above, kept for up to 90 days.
• Analytics cookies, only if analytics is enabled on this site.

Third parties we link to (such as retailers) set their own cookies on their own websites after you click through to them. Their privacy policies apply there.

Third-Party Services

Depending on configuration, this site works with the following categories of services:

• Advertising platforms (Google Ads, Microsoft Advertising) to measure the performance of our ads.
• Analytics providers to understand how our guides are used.
• Affiliate networks and retailers. Our product links are affiliate links. The network and the retailer register that a click came from this site so a commission can be attributed. You can read more in our affiliate disclosure.

Data Retention

Usage data and attribution data are kept no longer than needed for the measurement purposes described above. Email correspondence is deleted when it is no longer needed to help you.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of data relating to you, to restrict or object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent you gave earlier. If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, these rights come from the GDPR, and you can also lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority. Residents of California and other US states with privacy laws can additionally request details about the categories of data we handle; we do not sell personal information. To exercise any of these rights, email us through the contact page and we will respond within the legally required period.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

When we change this policy, we update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be highlighted on this page.
